ABBEY ARTS is dedicated to building community
through arts and culture.
- We create opportunities and spaces to bring artists and audiences together.
- We create environments for young artists and performers to grow and develop their craft.
- We help others to do good by providing affordable and accessible event, workshop and performance spaces for Seattle non-profit, arts, and community groups.
Attendance at our various programs and hosted events averages over 41,000 a year!
We are currently seeking new volunteers to join our board of directors and
advisory board to help guide and support the continuation and expansion of this important work.
We’re working hard to help Seattle (and beyond) be a place of creativity & community. Our current venue focus is Fremont, South Park, Ballard, UDistrict, Greenlake, and North Capitol Hill.

OUR MISSION
Artwerks DBA Fremont Abbey Arts is a nonprofit 501(c)3 public charity, non-religious, established 2005.
Home venue: Fremont Abbey Arts Center, 4272 Fremont Ave N, Seattle, 98103
Other venues: Ballard Homestead, St Mark’s on Capitol Hill, UHeights, South Park Hall and more.
Generally we are looking for Board & Advisory board members who can bring business or nonprofit experience, wisdom, and careful guidance to the group.
Specific areas of expertise needed include:
- Meeting Facilitation, Leadership
- Organizing & Updating Documents, Emails, Scheduling (Secretary)
- Finance (Treasurer)
- Tech / IT / Web (Advisory Board & Volunteers)
- Buildings & Facilities
- Fundraising / Finding Sponsorship Leads
- New Partnerships / Networking

Previous nonprofit board experience is not required but is recommended. There are a variety of Board trainings around Seattle that may interest you.

BOARD DETAILS
- Our voting Board meets at least once a quarter for approx 2.5 hours in Fremont or Ballard (or online)
- Our Executive Committee and other active committees typically meet monthly (usually Tuesdays evenings) and all board members are welcome to attend these meetings.
- Typically we do not meet in December or August.
- Term is a minimum of 2 years and can be extended upon mutual agreement from the Board at the annual meeting.
- We ask that members commit to attending all quarterly meetings (and any committees they join) and respond with timely email votes or input as needed.
- We ask for a personally significant donation to the Abbey when joining the board and annually thereafter in the 4th Quarter.
- While not required, per calendar year we encourage Board Members to procure $1,000-$10,000 in financial or needed in-kind support via personal or corporate donation, inviting other donors to fundraiser events, gaining a new sponsor, or other means.
- We ask that all board members bring at least 3 donors to our primary annual fundraiser and attend themselves if at all possible.
ADVISORY BOARD DETAILS
- Our non-voting Advisory Board meets once or twice a year for 2 hours usually on a weeknight in Fremont and/or via online meeting.
- We ask that all Advisory Board members invite at least 2 people to our annual fundraiser and attend if at all possible.
- A timely response to at least one email (approximately every other month) may be requested.
- Term is approximately 2 years, often members stay on the Advisory board longer or move to voting Board.
- A personally significant financial contribution is greatly appreciated when joining the Advisory Board and each year after that.
If interested, please either contact us directly or advise your Abbey board contact that you’d like to be considered for the Board.
A 2nd board member and/or Executive Director will then typically meet with you and take the application to the next step. Feel free to followup if you haven’t seen a response within 3 weeks.
